Excellent position lovely staff our 2 bedroom apartment was perfect for the 4 of us , could have fitted more in as there was an extra bed, 2 toilets which was handy very clean warm and comfortable spotless bedding and towels big fresh smelling 8rooms self catering facilities fine although we didn't need to use them much as we'd already eaten in the evening and had a great breakfast in the hotel next morning we booked it in advance so got very good value for money

Property building in The Derwentwater Hotel

Location was fantastic with our free room upgrade overlooking Derwent Water itself. We stayed for 4 nights, Mon-Thu at the end of January 2025 and got a great deal for B & B. The hotel is a magnificent old building, but it is starting to look a little tired in places and in need of a refurb. Breakfast was excellent, including fruit juices, cereals, yoghurt, fruit, toast and a full English buffet breakfast. Staff very smiley, cheerful and helpful.

Breakfast in The Derwentwater Hotel

The location, the staff, the breakfasts and the general feeling of home comforts at this lovely traditional Cumbrian hotel made this a more than perfect trip. I had read some very negative reviews of the hotel rooms and apartments and can only assume that whoever wrote them had unrealistically high expectations. I have worked in the travel industry on almost every continent for more than 40 years in a huge range of properties and I have now added this property to my list of favourites! I also want to thank Howard for all his advice and help.

I like old hotels built in 1812 it is old. Its maintained well. Breakfast was very tasty. The staff are 5*. Hospitality is 5* all round. Housekeeping I can't comment on as they didn't clean our room in 2 days. Location is good only a short walk to Keswick from the hotel. If coming back at night you will need a torch. The grounds ate extensive and well maintained. My special thanks go to Faahar on the front desk and the night watch guy. Great conversation and a caring nature of them both.

Mountain view in The Derwentwater Hotel

The location was second to none, a two minute stroll to the end of the garden and you're on derwent waters, if you're lucky to have a lakeside view it's phenomenal. The staff were all lovely and very helpful. And your puppies are welcome, although we didn't take ours. 10 minute drive to amenities in Keswick. Very close to Buttermere and the notorious Newlands Pass and Honister Pass, water water everywhere I'd deffo go back. Lovely little garden too, i bet it's stunning in the summer.

The staff are always helpful and good-natured and make us feel very welcome. The walk down to the lake is a joy always but at this time of year it's amazing! The path is deep in a sea of fragrant Meadowsweet in an area of unspoiled wetland that holds a variety of birds and butterflies; first thing in the morning it's a joy.

Breakfast was lovely, buffet style so could have as much or as little as you wanted. All items were beautifully cooked and fresh. Option of sitting in the main restaurant area or in the main bar was also good - especially as it seemed those of us with dogs had a bit more room for them in the main bar area. Main bar area on an evening was great! Plenty of games/cards etc. offered by hotel to use for free, lovely drinks and great space for both us and dogs to relax and chat with friends.

Breakfast in The Derwentwater Hotel

Staff was very kind and friendly, location was perfect for us (close to town but not too close either), our apartment had issues but the staff was kind enough to move us to another apartment in no time, overall great time. Dogs were welcome so that is a super big like for us.

Sue, who worked in the dining room and conservatory bar is an absolute diamond of a person, so warm and welcoming - constantly on the go but never too busy for a friendly word. The hotel itself is a faded beauty, it could use a little love but what's there is clean and tidy. Bed very comfy, hot shower and great food. Good value all round. We'd go back just to see Sue.

Mountain view in The Derwentwater Hotel

The hotel was in the perfect location to explore the Lake District and it had a beautiful garden with views of Derwentwater. The apartment was quiet, the bed was very comfortable and the bedroom was spacious and had plenty of space to put clothes and personal items away The lounge/dining area was also comfortable and relaxing. The staff were friendly and helpful.
